Princess Cast to the Underworld

Princess Bari, or Baridegi, is the central figure of a Korean shamanic myth and the patron of mudang shamans. Abandoned at birth as a seventh unwanted daughter, she was cast out by her royal parents, yet when they fell mortally ill she alone undertook the perilous journey to the underworld to fetch the medicinal water that could heal them. For her devotion she became the guide who leads the souls of the dead safely into the afterlife.
