Zheng He
Admiral of the Treasure Fleet
Zheng He was a Chinese admiral and diplomat of the Ming dynasty who commanded the greatest naval expeditions of his age. A Muslim eunuch in the service of the Yongle Emperor, he led seven grand voyages between 1405 and 1433, sailing treasure fleets of hundreds of ships and tens of thousands of men across Southeast Asia, India, Arabia, and the coast of East Africa. His flagships were among the largest wooden vessels ever built, and his voyages projected the wealth and reach of Ming China.
