Maurya Spear

The infantry of the Mauryan Empire formed the backbone of one of antiquity's largest armies, ranks of spearmen and archers who, with war-elephants and cavalry, held the empire from the Hindu Kush to the south of the subcontinent. Drawn from the common people and disciplined in close order, such soldiers stood the line in the campaigns that unified much of ancient India under a single throne.
