Archer Who Felled Nine Suns

Hou Yi is the divine archer of Chinese mythology. When ten suns rose together and scorched the earth to barrenness, he drew his bow and shot down nine of them, leaving a single sun to warm the world and saving humankind. For this feat the Queen Mother of the West rewarded him with the elixir of immortality, which his wife Chang'e would later take, carrying her to the moon.
