Silent Guardian of the Buried Host
The Terracotta Army is a vast buried host of life-sized clay soldiers entombed near the mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, China's first emperor, who died in 210 BCE. Crafted in their thousands with individual faces and once brightly painted, the figures stood in battle formation with real weapons to guard the emperor in the afterlife. Lost for over two millennia, they were rediscovered by well-diggers in 1974.
