Yennenga is the legendary warrior princess of the Mossi, celebrated as the mother of their people. A peerless rider and archer, she fought beside her father's armies until, longing for freedom, she rode alone into the wilderness. There she met the hunter Riale, and their son Ouedraogo founded the Mossi kingdoms of what is now Burkina Faso, whose horsemen still honor her name.
