Mama Killa
Mother Moon of the Andes
Mama Killa, Mother Moon, is the Inca goddess of the moon, marriage, and the festival calendar, sister-wife of the sun-god Inti. Her silvery light governed the reckoning of time and the cycles of women, and her temple in Cusco was sheathed in plates of shining silver. The Inca believed eclipses came when a jaguar or serpent attacked her, and they made great noise to drive the beast away and save her.
