Wings That Burn the Sky

Garuda is the mighty bird-being of Hindu and Buddhist tradition, the divine mount of the god Vishnu. Radiant as the sun and vast enough to blot out the sky, he was born the sworn enemy of the serpent nagas, whom he hunts without mercy. Legend tells that he seized the elixir of immortality to free his enslaved mother, and his image as a fierce, eagle-like guardian spread across South and Southeast Asia, where he remains a national emblem of Indonesia and Thailand.
