King Arthur, the legendary king of the Britons, drew the sword from the stone to claim his throne and gathered the finest knights at the Round Table in Camelot. With the blade Excalibur and the counsel of Merlin he repelled invaders and pursued the Holy Grail, before falling at the battle of Camlann and being borne to the isle of Avalon, promised to return in Britain's hour of need.
