Born from a stone egg atop the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit, Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, mastered seventy-two transformations and cloud-somersaults that spanned the heavens, wielding a cudgel wrenched from the Dragon King's sea-palace. He rebelled against the Jade Emperor's court and struck his name from the ledgers of death, and was pinned beneath a mountain for five centuries before earning redemption guarding the pilgrimage west.
