Hina

She Who Dwells in the Moon

Hina is a goddess found throughout Polynesian mythology, associated with the moon and often called Hina-i-ka-malama, she who dwells in the moon. In Hawaiian tradition, weary of earthly toil and her family's demands, she climbed a rainbow or pathway to the moon, where she lives still, sometimes seen beating tapa cloth from bark. As a feminine power linked to tides, fertility, and the cycles of the night, she is honored across the Pacific islands.
