Baiame

Sky-Father of the First Songlines

Baiame is a sky-father and creator being of several Aboriginal Australian peoples of the southeast, including the Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi. In the Dreaming he descended to the unformed land, shaped the rivers, mountains, and creatures, and gave the first people their laws, ceremonies, and customs before withdrawing into the sky, where some say he watches from the Milky Way. His likeness is preserved in rock art, and his name is held so sacred it is often spoken only in initiation.
