Khalid ibn al-Walid
The Drawn Sword
Khalid ibn al-Walid was one of the greatest generals of early Islam, an Arab commander who served the Prophet Muhammad and the first caliphs in the seventh century. Renowned as Sayf Allah al-Maslul, the Drawn Sword of God, he was never defeated across more than a hundred battles. He shattered the armies of the Byzantine and Sasanian empires, winning decisive victories such as Yarmuk that opened Syria and Iraq to the early Muslim conquests.
