The Unconquered Heel

Achilles, the greatest warrior of the Greeks at Troy, was the son of the sea-nymph Thetis, who dipped him in the river Styx to render him invulnerable save for the heel by which she held him. In the Iliad his wrath, kindled by a quarrel with Agamemnon and the death of his companion Patroclus, drives the war's bloodiest deeds; he slays the Trojan prince Hector and drags his body before the walls, before falling himself to an arrow guided to his fatal heel.
