The Viking raider was a seafaring Norse warrior of the early medieval age who crossed cold northern waters in swift longships to plunder, trade, and settle. Armed with axe, spear, and round shield, such men struck the monasteries and coasts of England, navigated the great rivers eastward, and reached shores from Ireland to the edge of the known world.
