Queen of the Iceni

Boudica, queen of the Iceni tribe of Britain, led a great revolt against Roman occupation around AD 60 after the Romans seized her late husband's kingdom, had her flogged, and assaulted her daughters. Rallying the British tribes, she sacked and burned the Roman settlements of Camulodunum, Londinium, and Verulamium, slaughtering thousands. Her uprising was finally crushed by the governor Suetonius Paulinus, and rather than be taken, she is said to have died by poison.
