Sun Tzu was the ancient Chinese general and strategist traditionally credited with writing The Art of War, the oldest known treatise on military strategy. Said to have served the state of Wu in the sixth century BC, he taught that the supreme excellence is to subdue the enemy without fighting, prizing deception, knowledge of oneself and one's foe, terrain, and adaptability.
