The Lady of Slaughter

Sekhmet, the lion-headed goddess of ancient Egypt, was the fierce daughter of the sun god Ra and a deity of war, destruction, and healing. When humanity rebelled, Ra sent her to punish them, and she fell into a slaughtering frenzy that threatened to destroy all mankind; the gods halted her only by flooding the fields with beer dyed red as blood, which she drank until she fell into a peaceful sleep. As the burning breath of the desert, she was both bringer of plague and its cure.
